- Improving communication skills, positive decision making, and problem solving;
- Developing relationships that are healthy;
- Teaching information that is medically correct;
- Promoting responsible behavior – including abstinence, birth control, STI and HIV/AIDS prevention.

- Sex Ed that is age appropriate for the students;
- Sex Ed that is medically accurate and based on facts;
- Sex Ed that is culturally competent;
- Sex Ed that is inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth;
- Sex Ed that includes information about abstinence, contraception and STI and HIV/AIDS prevention;
- Sex Ed that is taught by well-trained teachers;
- Sex Ed that includes the entire school community (i.e., students, teachers, administrators, parents and caregivers, and the other important stakeholders of the individual school community);
- Sex Ed that includes linkages with health care centers and providers;
- Sex Ed that empowers New York City youth to make informed decisions to build healthy futures.
Teaching comprehensive sex education should be mandatory.
Together, we can ensure our children receive a complete education.
Tell Mayor Bloomberg that New York City youth need comprehensive
sex education every year, in every grade!
Dear Mayor Bloomberg,
I am writing to urge you to require comprehensive sex education in New York City’s public schools. I believe all young people should get age-appropriate sex education every year, in every grade.
The research shows sex education is effective at helping young people make healthy decisions about their bodies and relationships. All the major medical organizations support sex education. Eight out of ten New Yorkers support sex education.
What are we waiting for? Let’s give our young people the information and skills they need to live healthy lives. I support sex education in our schools and I hope you will too.
